ROTTERDAM

Concept
I get inspired from Rotterdam by the people. People here are different where I come from. They are outspoken and honest. There is a lot of movement in the city. I like dynamic things. I want to make this concept more personal for myself. I'm going to move to Rotterdam soon and the best way to learn city is people. Building connections, making new friends and having a good time. In a big city you often feel alone. I want to bring people together, especially nowadays.

Candle:
Rotterdam itself is a raw city, but it's also a beautiful side of Rotterdam. Everywhere I went there are contrasts: people, buildings, neighborhoods. Everything lives together in unity. Rotterdam accepts everyone. I want to bring unity. The roughness of Rotterdam combines with a feeling of coziness, sociability. Candle stands for that. I chose the color blue because Rotterdam is the harbour city. Yellow stands for life in the city... The form is construction and the growth of the city.

Packaging:
I want that unity of design with my product and packaging. To use the candle holder as packaging, the packaging isn't thrown away either. The candle holder is the shape of three bridges within the city, De Hef, Willemsbrug and Erasmusbrug. The bridges stand for connections.
I also want to challenge myself to make something interactive. The bridges can be placed on different shapes.
